What is Response to Intervention (RtI)?
This service has been used as an approach to identify and provide early intervention services to our students in language arts and math.
The goals of the program are:
1. To provide extended time for instruction in order to increase reading/math achievement.
2. To ensure each student is prepared to do well on the formative assessments at the end of the school year.
3. To increase their motivation to learn.
We are currently working with students who have scored below the expected level on one or more areas of assessments used by the school. Students will be working in small groups for a half hour Monday – Thursday. Each student will have an individual goal and objective to work on during the sessions. They will be progress monitored to determine how much growth they have made towards their goal.
Hanley recognizes that all students learn differently. We are committed to helping all students succeed. Therefore, we ask for your support in implementing this approach to meet the academic needs of your child along with all students in our school.
How do students qualify for RtI?
1. Universal screening
2. Form small groups of 4-6 students who fall in tier 2 and 3
3. Meet everyday or every other day for 30 minutes working toward individual goals
4. Progress Monitor each Friday
5. When students reach goals after a period of time, they are then exited from the program, but progress monitored monthly
